Compuload Weighing Systems Product History

Early attempts to have an on board digital weighing system for both loader and forklifts resulted in desktop and platform indicators being used in both applications. These indicators were not successful as they could not cope with the rugged dusty environmental conditions or the variation in both temperature and voltage.

Barry Tobin (Director of Atlas Weighing Pty. Ltd.) had previous experience in both the earthmoving and weighing industry.

The original Compuload III was developed in 1988 by Atlas Weighing with the co-operation of Amalgamated Instrument Company, with the intension to fill this gap in the weighing industry and have a practical purpose made digital “on board” scale to suit forklifts and front end loaders.

The Compuload III proved to be a reliable and accurate weighing system. The earthmoving industry loved it. At last they could load trucks and weigh products without having to travel to a weighbridge. In excess of 1800 units were sold within Australia and overseas. Many of these systems are still in operation today. However computerised technology was on a roll and it became apparent that a more advanced weighing system was required.

Barry Tobin introduced his son Jason into the Company and with the previous experience they had gained, they then developed the first version of the Compuload 4000 weighing systems. Once again the idea was to keep it practical. First preference was to have an accurate “weigh as you load” scale followed by the need to provide the user and management with data that was relevant and useful. Compuload allows users to enter fields such as “Customer”, “Product” and “Truck” together with Date & Time were required and added. The first Compuload 4000 series weighing scale was released in mid 1995.

Since then the Compuload 3000 has been released. Both the Compuload 4000 & 3000 have had numerous upgrades to keep pace with technology and end user requirements however have maintained their “easy to use and operate” principle.

Today, with over 5000 Compuloads in the earthmoving industry, we continue to get comments such as “love it”, “Can’t do without it”, “Paid for itself in the first week” and “Should have done it years ago”.
